Wrong. Motion is forward in a straight line unless a SECOND FORCE is interjected. Curves are a combination of more than one force. Your orbiting planets would move in a straight line, going out of what you call the Solar System, were they not held back by their gravitational attraction to the Sun.

You are clinging to this notion because your teachers TOLD you that long period comets move in an ellipse, along with a lot of other contradictory theories. University professors can't even line up with each other, so simply teach contradictions. Astronomers do likewise, chopping everything up into bits so that any given bit seems to make sense, as trying to reconcile all their notions with each other sets them to screaming arguments. Your laws of motion state that motion is in a straight line. Your laws of gravity state that objects approach each other directly. Elliptical orbit laws simply mathematically describe an ellipse, and in the case of long period ellipses ARE IN CONTRADICTION to the first two laws we mentioned.

Look to your Olympic decathlon games, where a heavy weight is held BACK for its forward motion by the hand of the twirling athlete. He lets loose of the metal disc and it moves in a straight line to the target area, does NOT curve, does NOT retain the prior curve in memory somewhere to be perpetuated.

Thank you for confirming that centrifugal force is fictitious, and that motion moves in a straight line unless compounded by other forces. What ARE these forces out in space, where the comet supposedly makes a dramatic loop? As we mentioned above, this does not occur during decathlon. A curve is not intrinsic motion, is it a COMBINATION of forces.
